Darwen Queen Victoria Tower Lancashire England. Dominating the valley since 1897 when it was constructed to mark her Diamond Jubilee. I was brought up here and it was always said of the tower that if you can’t see it it was raining and if you could see it then it was going to rain – Lancashire weather.
The town is the basis for much of my story in the family history book A BULLET FOR LIFE out on Amazon. The town in the days of my ancestors was an Industrial one and one of grinding poverty and long hours working in the cotton mills. Some of my family escaped by joining the army and three did not return from conflict. The military theme runs through the book with a remarkable heartwarming ending to much misery. It is quite a story and I hope you enjoy it and also it gives you some pointers to use in your own research
