Senanque Abbey and Beautiful Lavender fields in Provence France

I have written of the remarkable expanse of lavender around the Abbey at Senanque just north of Gordes in the chapter ‘Our week in Provence’ in my book on Amazon – THYME for PROVENCE but it is worth briefly pointing out some other areas that should be on your ‘must see’ list if you are a lover of this beautiful fragrant plant. I appreciate that there are many people for whom a visit to Provence must be made in the lavender season as it is crucial to their experience of the region. My wife Niamh is one of those people.

Justly famed as one of the most beautiful villages in the Luberon, Roussillon is a place we have loved from the early days of our travels in Provence. Perched high like so many of the Luberon villages, Roussillon is surrounded by the most beautiful countryside and from the very top of the village it gives extensive panoramic views that are difficult to beat in any other village in the Luberon.

French Markets in Provence are missed so much just now

French markets are a joy and at present they cannot be visited from abroad. This is one aspect of French travel that I so miss in this current situation and I am sure that resonates with many of you. One day we can safely travel again – hope you are all safe and well.

French Market at Forcalquier Provence in a Peaceful square

One of our favourite French markets at Forcalquier Provence – the square is quiet and beautiful located just behind the main street that the market spills out on. A cafe serves a welcome coffee and has live soft music.

Resistants memorial St Saturnin les Apt Provence France

I write of these men and women and their memorials which you see in towns and villages and on the roadsides of Provence in my book THYME FOR PROVENCE. It is a fascinating but deeply tragic story and a contrast to the beautiful scenery, food and wine that we enjoy and love in Provence. ItContinue reading “Resistants memorial St Saturnin les Apt Provence France”
