The sun has shone on England this spring and these photos are from a week of endless sun in Cornwall. The flowers are out in abundance and the coastline is a stunning azure blue. A stunning place to be in this exceptional weather. Please enjoy the photography and my writing.

Lavender in Provence – Where to find the best views
I appreciate that there are many people for whom a visit to Provence must be made in the lavender season as it is crucial to their experience of the region. My wife Niamh is one of those people. Our old friend the village of Banon is a good starting point for a lavender tour. Around the village are some magnificent lavender fields and a climb to the church at the top of the village will reveal them in all their stupendous glory. If you briefly go out of the village on the D950 in the direction of Forcalquier you can turn off to go down one of the minor roads on your left, experiencing driving as if through a lavender field. There are some glorious photo opportunities. After that you can then go back through Banon and take the D950 in the opposite direction to Revest du Bion
Provencal Summer – Photography from Lavender Fields
Travellers have their own favourite areas of Provence where they appreciate the vast fields of lavender. For me the finest spot is close to Banon. In fact anywhere around that village whether you head towards Forcalquier, as in this shot, or north of the village back across towards the famous area around Sault, you willContinue reading “Provencal Summer – Photography from Lavender Fields”
Amazing Skies over Somerset
We were enjoying some time with our granddaughter last Thursday when she suddenly pointed out that the sky was changing colour. She was right. It had been an awful day of weather – heavy persistent rain and windy. THe first thing we noticed was the sky turning blue and then going into purple as inContinue reading “Amazing Skies over Somerset”
Historic Town of Dunster Somerset
Dunster, near to the Somerset coastline at Minehead is a popular town with visitors. The ancient castle on the hill overlooking the town is its most prominent feature of course and the above photograph was taken from the ramparts. The attractive main street, at the top of which is the old yarn market, is lined with attractive shops and cafes. Even if you have never visited Dunster it will still seem familiar to you as a well used film location – check out Agatha Christie’s Poirot for instance.
A Day in……..Uphill, Somerset
UPHILL
The small village of Uphill consists of the village itself around the marina and down to the beach. Also, it spreads along the Axe Estuary from the marina where the Nature Reserves are filled with birds, wildlife, and plenty of botanical interest. This area at the southern end of Weston Super Mare is a most delightful place and you can easily, with a picnic, spend a whole day here exploring with your camera or binoculars. It reminds me of parts of Suffolk, particularly around Snape, where the skies are big, the land filled with birdsong. It is generally much quieter than Weston Super Mare, day visitors there would never be aware that such a beautiful place was just a few hundred yards from hustle and bustle of a Bank Holiday weekend.

Photography of Porthleven Cornwall
Porthleven in Cornwall is a thriving harbour town overlooking Mounts Bay. The South West coastal path goes either side of the harbour taking in some breathtaking scenery.
