In search of Hemingway and Midnight in Paris

Writing about Paris throws up too many ideas and most of them are very personal and I wonder does anyone want to read such personal memoirs. Which brings me to Hemingway and the Woody Allen film ‘Midnight in Paris’ which is basically a Paris travel advertisement ( and no less enjoyable for that) based on Hemingway’s book ‘A Moveable Feast’. We watched the film again for about the fiftieth time over Christmas. Hemingway’s book is a memoir of his time in Paris in the 1920’s with his first wife Hadley and their young son.

Portleven Harbour Cornwall looking over to the Ship Inn

Porthleven is one of our favourite Cornish towns. You need to take care on this small pier at the entrance to the harbour. You can easily be caught out by a gust of wind or the tide crashing in which it regularly does in Porthleven. The harbour is a great place to enjoy an outdoorContinue reading “Portleven Harbour Cornwall looking over to the Ship Inn”

Canet Plage the scene my First French Travel Book

Canet Plage was where we first visited France. We arrived in cold late spring weather and took our first steps of discovery around the port at Canet. We grew to love those walks into town or by crossing the harbour by small ferry. The sounds from the tightly packed boats were relaxing – gentle soundsContinue reading “Canet Plage the scene my First French Travel Book”

Collioure the Catalonia jewel of the South of France

On our travels around France you find special places, ones that stay with you for ever and always wish to return. Collioure just south of Perpignan on the Catalan coast is one such place – perhaps our very favourite in all of France. It was at the start of our travels and will always beContinue reading “Collioure the Catalonia jewel of the South of France”
